Fifth week of development

Hi there!

We are 5 weeks in the development of our game, it's slowly but surely starting to take form.

Blocking and sculpting

First off, let's talk about Jackie. A blockout was made to put in the project, so we could see how the proportions would look like and how readable her design is. This was approved and so the sculptin could begin! There mainly was a focus on keeping shapes clean and easy to rig. This is easier said than done. The highpoly shapes need to be controlled very well, but we managed, and here is the result:

Now begins the optimization. A retopo and unwrap are almost completed, and then, life will be breathed into the character with animations and textures. It's going to be a lot of work, but well worth it!

Pillar event

As you might've seen, our game has some events, including a pillar event where pillars emerge from the ground to create obstacles for the players. But just using a plain cylinder for the pillars isn't cutting it. So, we've started blocking out a design for those pillars. Here's what it looks like so far:

We will be making some additional tweaks to the design and plan to add textures soon to make it look even better!

Developers side of progress

We're slowly improving in using unreal and are starting to understand Unreal's way of doing things! Our mechanics are cooking at a steady pace.

The main event of this week was The great comeback of the Local Multiplayer!

Smash is back
The ball hitting logic is back! The player can now officially hit the ball back and send it flying!
One of the developers actually got stuck here as to why the collision didnt work, after 2 hours of debugging they noticed that a simple setting was ticked off, causing the collision not to work. oops.

Events Trifecta : Electric boogaloo!
The events are also on their way back! Right now the only developed event is the Ice floor event but functionality wise the event manager is basically ready to go! After fiddling a bit with Unreal's delegate system, we got it to function as intended(at least we hope so).

Anyway, that was it for this week! See you next week with more progress! Thanks for reading!
