Seventh week of development
Hello all! We are slowly creeping closer to the last weeks of this project. It feels like we just started, but it's going to be amazing to have a nice result soon! With such sights in the near future we are also trying to make sure that everything we want gets in the game. Here's what we worked on this week:
First draft of UI
This is the idea of what the UI is going to look like. Both lifebars are there, counting down towards eventual doom! There's also the icon for the the lightning power-up. This will be greyed out at first. When activated it lights up in the colors you see here.
Environment props around the arena
We've crafted some props to liven up the arena surroundings. Right now, we're in the initial blockout/model phase for these decorations. Once we've experimented with a few ideas for locations, sizes, combinations etc. we'll move on to unwrapping them and adding textures. But before that, we'll fine-tune their presentation in our engine to ensure they're perfectly showcased from our chosen camera angle.
Developer Progress!
Shake it!
We've missed the oomph when the ball gets hit, so we decided it to bring it back!
The camera now shakes every time the ball gets smashed away, giving the extra feeling of satisfaction(big stress reliever for all the unreal frustrations).
Freeze! Yet again
This time around the floor doesn't freeze, but the ball does(only for a split split second)! We've found that it's a great way to bring more control and feel to the game without slowing down the pace at all! Chaos and anarchy continues, just now a tiny bit more disciplined :)
Bug Patrol
We've had bugs from last weeks progress which are now fixed! e.g.
- The ball not changing colour when being parried. Now it does!
- The player being able to do Parry,Dash,Hit all at once, which was not the intention.
The player can either parry and dodge at the same time or smash and dodge.
- Not being invincible whilst dodging. Fixed!
- When the game lags, the ball phases through the wall. We haven't found a perfect fix for it yet but for now we have a workaround when the ball would leave the arena, it gets teleported back to the middle.
- When ball hits the player, the ball should slow down. Now slows down by 10% after hitting someone.
Changes to Main Level
We changed the main level texture, added some blockout UI on top and everything looks a lot better!
Also, now the ball get spawned next to you, waiting to be served!
Event Warnings!
Now, you get a quick message that the event is happening!
